About This Visa

Subclass 408 visa is a Temporary Activity visa. Subclass 408 visa is a good option for those people that are stuck in Australia due to the coronavirus situation with their current visa expiring soon. Subclass 408 visa can be applied for now without employer sponsorship. You may be eligible for Subclass 408 visa if you have ongoing work as a critical worker, or you are not eligible for any other visa. Applicants working in critical sectors may be granted a Subclass 408 for up to 12 months with work rights. Other applicants could be granted a visa for up to six months with the validity period dependent on the individual circumstances.

All applicant’s still need to satisfy all other requirements for Subclass 408 visa.

 

Eligibility & Key Requirements

  • Must be in Australia
  • Current visa expires within 28 days
  • Last substantive visa expired within last 28 days
  • Evidence for working as a critical worker. Critical sectors include medicine, healthcare, disability and aged care, childcare and agriculture sector.
  • Cannot meet the requirements of any other visa
  • Enough money to support yourself and any dependent family members who travelled to Australia with you
  • Maintain adequate health insurance if required
  • Must apply online

Note: applicants not working in critical sectors will not be granted work rights.

Should the COVID-19 pandemic be continuing beyond October 2020 and people are still unable to depart, they will be able to apply for a further subclass 408 visa.
