About this Visa
This visa is an 18-month temporary visa for recent graduates from overseas universities. Currently, this visa is only for engineering graduates from a list of universities specified by DIAC. The applicant is not subject to the Points Test, but generally, there are no review rights. There is no sponsorship by an Australian relative or nomination by a state or territory requirement for this visa subclass.
Eligibility
- The main applicant must have completed a degree or higher qualification in engineering at an institution specified by DIAC. This must have been completed within the 24 months prior to application.
- The main applicant must have a competent level of English.
- The main applicant must not have previously held either the Skilled - Graduate Subclass 485 or Skilled - Recognised Graduate Subclass 476.
- The main applicant must be under 31 years of age at the time of the application.
- All applicants must meet health, character, public interest and special return criteria.
- Applicants may be inside or outside Australia at the time of lodgement, and all applicants must be in Australia at time of grant (except subsequent applicants)
- Secondary applicants are permitted, but certain requirements must be met.
Conditions
This is a temporary residence (TR) visa valid for 18 months. Condition 8502 (must not enter before a specified person) and/or Condition 8515 (must not marry before entering) may be imposed on the visa.

Pathway to Permanent Residence
Skilled Recognised Graduate Subclass 476 is an 18-month temporary residence visa allowing students who have recently graduated overseas to obtain the required work experience to apply for permanent residence in Australia. While on a Skilled Recognised Graduate Subclass 476 it may be possible to apply for other visas, if eligible criteria are met, including:
- Business Long Stay Subclass 457 - (Temporary Residence)
- Skilled Independent Subclass 885 - (Permanent Residence)
- Skilled Sponsored Subclass 886 - (Permanent Residence)
- Skilled - Regional Sponsored Subclass 487 - (Three Year Provisional Visa)
- Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 856 - (Permanent Residence)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 857 - (Permanent Residence)
