Sheetmetal Trades Worker

Sheetmetal Trades Worker is employed in many parts of Australia, with Queensland having the largest share of Sheetmetal Trades Workers. They primarily work in Construction; Manufacturing and Other Services industries. Common duties include: 

• study drawings, specifications and blueprints to determine job, material and equipment requirements

• select metal stock like stainless steel, galvanised iron, mild steel, aluminium and copper, and check sizes, gauges and other dimensions of metal stock against specifications

• trace metal stock with reference points and lines and cut them along guidelines

• form and shape cut metal stock into products

• assemble and fit components into final products 

• polish, file, sand and clean final products

Though the role declined in the last five years, the demand for the role will rise in the next 5 years, from 8,100  in 2018 to 8,500 by 2023 or around 5,000 job vacancies in over 5 years.

Sheetmetal Trades Workers are required to have diploma degree and relevant experience.
