Electricians (General) install, maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment in homes, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. They ensure power is safely distributed and electrical installations comply with Australian standards.
Minimum requirements for electricians include an AQF Certificate III in Electrotechnology, relevant industry experience, and state or territory electrical registration or licence.
Duties
Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to plan installation work
Select, cut and connect cables and wires to terminals and connectors
Install and maintain switchboards, circuit breakers and control systems
Test and diagnose faults using electrical and electronic instruments
Repair or replace defective wiring, components and fixtures
Ensure all electrical systems operate safely and efficiently
