Floor finishers measure, cut, lay and fix soft and resilient floor coverings. They sand wooden floors to smooth surfaces, apply coats of finish and install carpet floor coverings, commercial carpet floor coverings, carpet tiles using custom designs, rubber floor coverings, linoleum floor coverings and commercial vinyl floor coverings.
The occupation experienced strong growth in the last five years and projected to continue in the next five years, from 11,300 in 2018 to 11,900 by 2023 or 4000 jobs in 5 years (800 jobs per year).
Minimum requirements for fibrous plasterer include diploma, relevant experience and registration.
Duties
measure areas to be covered to assess quantities of floor covering materials neede
prepare surfaces to cover and remove baseboard trims
measure, cut and repair underlay materials
install carpets, linoleum, parquetry blocks, cork tiles and other resilient flooring materials over floors,
secure floor coverings and fit edge trims in doorways
sand, stain and apply finishing coatings to timber floors
