Mechanical Engineering Technician
Location: Moree, NSW
Salary: $80,000 + Super
 
Position Summary:
  
The Metering and Telemetry Technician provides technical support for the installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of water metering and remote telemetry systems. The role assists with equipment preparation, system commissioning, troubleshooting and regulatory compliance, and supports the development of technical documentation and installation procedures for metering and monitoring system.
  
Key Responsibilities:

Water Metering and Compliance
  • Assist with the installation, calibration, testing and maintenance of water metering systems to ensure operational accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, validation records and compliance reports for Irritek DQP activities.
  • Configure and prepare water metering equipment for installation and field deployment.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and equipment registers for metering systems and components.
  • Diagnose faults and assist with servicing and repair of water meters and associated mechanical components.
Telemetry Systems
  • Configure, test and commission Irritek Remote telemetry devices and monitoring systems prior to installation.
  • Monitor telemetry systems to identify faults or performance issues and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Complete wiring, configuration and functional testing of telemetry and automation systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation including installation guides and user manuals for telemetry equipment.
  • Assist with system testing, field deployment and commissioning of telemetry and monitoring systems.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Engineering associate degree / diploma
  • Experience with metering devices and understanding of metering regulatory framework and appointment as a DQP.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to manage and organise inventory effectively.
  • Technical aptitude for wiring, device configuration, and fieldwork.
  • Ability to write clear and user‑friendly product manuals and instructions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Competence in using digital tools, apps, and monitoring platforms.
Working conditions:
  • Workshop and office‑based tasks with occasional fieldwork.
  • Ability to lift and handle metering or telemetry equipment as required.
  • Adherence to WHS procedures and safe work practices always.
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
  • Education/Experience: Degree or trade qualifications in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics OR completion of Year 12 with 2+ years’ experience in electrical or agricultural tech.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of machinery and auto electric systems with experience in installation, problem-solving, and maintenance.
  • Computer Proficiency: Competence with MS Office Suite and digital tools.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills, customer-oriented approach, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and team members.
Essential Requirements:
  • Driver’s License: Current Australian driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to handle manual tasks such as lifting, driving to remote properties, and working in varying conditions.
