About the role: 

  • Comply with the company's WH&S policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment; participate and contribute to WH&S meetings

  • Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.

  • Interpret technical drawings and using the correct tools and work methods to weld and produce production work to a high standard

  • Lay out sheet steel plate, and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates

  • Weld small and large components such as tanks, frames, bends and pipelines

  • Manage and maintain welders and machinery used and monitor machinery for appropriate usage and temperature

  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors

  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

  • Assemble welded and/or part components using physical or mechanical lifting equipment as required

  • Attend customer sites for welding of components in situ or new projects and repair of existing infrastructure

  • Using acquired knowledge, make decisions and problem solve within the scope of the position; seek guidance from the Workshop Leading Hand as required

  • Assist with training of production staff within the workshop as required to raise quality standards

  • Assist to maintain equipment and machinery within the workshop; report equipment or machinery that requires repair or replacement

About the candidate

  • Relevant trade qualifications and additional training, e.g. Working at Heights, Confined Spaces

  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings

  • Attention to detail

  • Clear communication skills; ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Car licence, Forklift licence or the commitment and ability to obtain one.

  • Ability to prioritise and flexibility to adjust to shifting work priorities

Annual income for a standard 38-hour week excluding superannuation ranges from $75,000 to $90,000 per annum, commensurate with industry rates, skills, and experience.
