​Australian employers and skilled migrants should prepare for upcoming changes to visa income thresholds, with a 4.6% increase taking effect from 1 July 2025. This adjustment, known as the TSMIT (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold), reflects changes in Australia’s Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE).

Here’s what employers and skilled migrants need to know:

1. The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) will increase from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515. This decrease will impact nomination applications for the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).

2. The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase from AUD135,000 to AUD141,210. This hike hike will impact nomination applications for the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).

3. The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515. This amendment will impact nomination applications lodged for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494). This move is in line with the CSIT and subject to approval of relevant legislation.

New nomination applications, starting July 1, 2025, must meet the new relevant income threshold or the annual market salary rate (AMSR), whichever is higher. The increased skilled visa income thresholds will not apply to existing visa holders and nominations lodged before 1 July 2025.

In addition, the Fair Work Commission has announced another step forward for Australian workers more generally. From July 1, 2025, the national minimum wage will increase to $25.20 per hour or $980.00 per week (38-hour basis).
