Web Developers are considered the experts in planning, producing, and maintaining websites using client-server or service-side programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, PHP, HTML/CSS, and Ruby; web software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Sass, Webflow, Adobe Muse, etc; other technologies and databases, the choice of which largely dependent on user specification needs, and often concurrent with the requirements of other ICT professionals like the Business Analysts and Network Specialists.  Specifically, Web Developers are responsible for testing and documenting software for websites, writing, modifying and debugging software, writing codes to generate web pages, accessing databases and business logic servers, among other tasks.


Their type of work is primarily office-based that requires strong web technical know-how, consulting and analytical abilities.  Web Developers are also expected to have excellent presentation skills and the ability to work well with other Technical Specialists in the team like the Web Designers who are focused more on the website’s front layout and appearance, as well as with Content Producers. They may from time to time also go out to meet with clients and direct users, as well as with vendors to discuss specific web requirements.


A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Programming, Information Technology, or other related courses is the basic entry point to become a Web Developer.  However, there are also those who successfully got into this occupation with sufficient years of experience in actual web development without formal education.


On the average, a Web Developer on full-time work is earning approximately $30/hour or $59,862 base pay per year.  Based on recent nationwide salary survey, the salary for this occupation ranges from $41,417 to $90,537 base pay per annum.  Some of the highly regarded skills that determine pay level include Linux, .NET, C#, Javascript, and MySQL.  The most common career path for Web Developers is their shift to Software Engineer/Developer/Programmer occupation.


Essentials: 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related field ( e.g. Computer Science)
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within the last 5 years
  • Proficiency in Javascript, HTML, CSS, among others
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding analytical and presentation skills


Desirable:

Experience in Linux, .NET, C#, MySQL
