Government Launches Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL)

To help recover the economy and generate jobs, the federal government launched a new skills list and labour market testing. This will enable skilled workers with sponsorships to come back to Australia and work on urgent jobs in critical sectors.

Minister and Senator Michaela Cash said occupations were shortlisted based on recent changes on internet vacancy index, employment changes, and the long-term stability in the labour market for individual occupations.

She added that PMSOL would be accompanied by labour market testing and employers must advertise their vacancy on the government’s Jobactive website.

According to Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alan Tudge healthcare, IT and construction jobs filled by skilled migrants will aid the country’s health and economic response to COVID-19. Visa holders in PMSOL occupation can ask for an exemption from the travel restrictions, subject to 14-days quarantine upon arrival at their own expense.
