Medical Practitioners are responsible for diagnosis, medical treatment, and care of patients. Common duties include:
examine patients to identify the nature of their complaints, and conduct tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
determine diagnosis based on examination and test outcomes
select and administer appropriate treatments and therapies and advise patients of further treatment and preventive options
prescribe and dispense medication and prosthetic and corrective devices
monitor patient’s progress and response to treatment
record patient’s illness, treatment administered and patients' responses and progress
Medical Practitioners work in a range of different occupations, which includes general practitioners, specialists, non-specialist and medical interns. Non-hospital positions are also included, such as clinicians, administrators, educators, and researchers.
Minimum requirements for Medical Practitioners include a bachelor degree or higher, one to two years hospital-based training, at least five years of specialist study, relevant experience, and registration.
