Sheetmetal Trades Workers cut out, form, shape and join sheetmetal and other materials to create products and components. Common responsibilities include:
review illustrations, specifications and blueprints to determine job, material and equipment requirements
choose metal stock like stainless steel, galvanised iron, mild steel, aluminium and copper, and check sizes, gauges and other dimensions of metal stock against specifications
trace metal stock with reference points and lines and cut them along guidelines using hand and power shears, guillotines and drills
form and shape cut metal stock into products using folding and bending equipment, rollers, presses and hammers
assemble and fit components into final products through welding, riveting, soldering, brazing and otherwise joining
polish, file, sand and clean final products
