Communications Operator

Communications Operator sends and receives radio messages by use of radio teletype, voice and Morse code. Minimum requirements for communications operator include diploma, relevant experience and registration.

Duties

• send and receive messages by satellite communication systems, radio, radiotelegraph, radiotelephone, morse or radio telex. 

• perform minor repairs to radio equipment or radar.

• provide a watch on maritime distress frequencies

• broadcasts weather and navigational warnings from coastal stations to ships at sea

• operate equipment which interconnects with inland service
