Accountants and GSM Changes
May 31, 2010
Please find below information regarding changes to Accountant related Skills Assessments and General Skilled Migration (GSM) Skilled Occupation List.
Assessment Changes Occurring on July 1, 2010.
ICAA, CPA & NIA have announced some changes to the Skills Assessment Criteria from 1 July 2010, these will be as follows:
- A formal qualification that is assessed at least as comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree.
- Completion of at least 9 out of the 12 core knowledge areas at tertiary level. Each nominated occupation has 4 mandatory core knowledge areas - please refer to the table below (Still based on ASCO Codes, until legislative changes).
|
- IELTS Academic Test Report Form (TRF) number for validation that you have a band score of at least seven (7) on each of the four (4) components - speaking, reading, listening and writing. (Academic Test). Please note that a successful assessment is valid for two (2) years from the date of assessment.
NOTE: Applications received before 1 July 2010 will be assessed against the current criteria. Even if unsuccessful, as long as you resubmit the new assessment by 31st Dec, 2010.

Transitional Arrangements:
If you have a partial skills assessment pre-July 1, then you will be assessed by the pre-July 1 criteria. In other words even if you lodge a skills assessment that "fails" (i.e. advises you require additional subjects) but later complete the required additional subjects, you can still get positive skills assessment without having to satisfy IELTS. Therefore, I recommend where possible to lodge a skills assessment pre-July 1. If possible lodge a fast track application (can be done in 5 working days).
Note: You may still require IELTS to gain the required points for PR depending on the new Points Test, and your individual circumstances. Note: If you are studying onshore, and require skills assessment for 485 visa, this may be your only chance to gain some time for PR.
