Information for those eagerly awaiting the new Australian migration Skilled Occupation List. DIAC delay announcing list till May. Also changes to Skills recognition for Accountants.
NEW SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST (SOL) WILL NOT BE RELEASED TODAY (30th April, 2010)
According the Department of Immigration and Citizenship:
The Government is considering the report from Skills Australia containing their Skilled Occupation List. An announcement and publication of the new Skilled Occupation List for Migration purposes will be made in May.
Previously, the Department had expected the new SOL would be announced today, 30 April 2010. So at this stage it's still wait and see.
Also, for potential GSM Applications for Accountant, note the following change:
CHANGES TO ACCOUNTANTS REQUIREMENTS FOR SKILLS RECOGNITION:
CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) have announced that, from 1 July 2010, the skills assessment criteria for General Skills Migration will be as follows:
- A formal qualification assessed as being at least comparable to an Australian Bachelor's degree;
- Completion of at least nine out of the 12 core knowledge areas at tertiary level (each nominated occupation has four mandatory core knowledge areas);
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test result of a score of at least seven (7) on each of the four components (speaking, reading, listening and writing).
The third skills assessing authority for Accountants, NIA (National Institute of Accountants), has advised the MIA that it will be making a decision about possible changes to its skills assessment by the end of the week ending Friday 7 May 2010. This announcement also covers Finance Managers, Corporate Treasurers and External Auditors.
