Skills Shortage to Get Worse in WA Aug 25, 2009
According to a recent KPMG survey, Australian businesses continue to rely on overseas labour to fill a skills shortfall despite the global financial crisis freeing up the labour market, according to a report. The report warns that Western Australia's (WA) skill shortages could get worse as major resource and energy projects gear up.

GSM Changes to English for Trades Jun 24, 2009
From July 1, 2009 DIAC wil increase the English language requirement for General Skilled Migrantion applicants nominating a trade occupation will be increased to a minimum of 6.0 (Competent English) in each of the four components of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. This increase in the IELTS score brings the English language requirement for trade occupations in line with other occupations for GSM visas, with trade occupations previously exempt from GSM.

Changes to Critical Skills List Mar 18, 2009
In response to the global economic crisis and the rising unemployment in Australi, the Australian Governemt has announced some changes to the Critical Skills List. This change mostly affects the construction and metal processing trades which are removed from the CSL effective March 16, 2009.

Priority Visa Processing Mar 17, 2009
DIAC has a prioority processing schedule which determines the order in which visa applications are processed are given priority and which are processed first. DIAC relies on the Australian Economic situation as well as information form the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). In response to the current economic condition and rising unemployment, DIAC has changed the Priority Processign Schedule.
