Generally, Sri Lankan born migrants have a high participation rate in Australian workforce.
Visas:
As well as the general range of visa streams, there are several advantages for potential Sri Lankan migrants including:
- Skilled Visas: Many Sri Lankan nationals come to Australia to avail of the world class education system available in Australia. School Fees are also comparatively cheaper their US & Canadian counterparts. This may also be a strong pathway to permanent residence. Students who study in Australia in approved degree (or higher) courses for '2 years' may qualify for the Skilled Independent - Onshore visa (Subclass 886) or the Skilled Graduate - Provisional (Subclass 485).
- Sponsored Family Visas: with so many Sri Lankan expats now citizens or permanent residents in Australia, maybe you can combine your skills and be sponsored by your relative?
- Student Visas: Although, Sri Lankan nationals are considered relatively high risk of overstay/breaching visa conditions, and given an Assessment Level 4 (i.e. higher evidence required). There are so many Sri Lanka students in Australia, particularly among the science and IT disciplines.
- Tourists: Sri Lankan nationals are eligible to apply for a tourist visa (Subclass 676).
- Close Ties: No matter what visa suits you, because of the volume of Sri Lankan expats in Australia you can be assured of a network of friends and support.
