SKILLED SPONSORED (ONSHORE) VISA - Subclass 886
About this Visa:
This is a permanent residence visa which requires sponsorship by an Australian relative or nomination by an Australian state or territory government. The application is dependent on the main applicant meeting eligibility criteria. Secondary applicants can be included but there are additional visa application costs for secondary applicants over 18 years old with less than functional English. This is the onshore version of the Subclass 176 visa. Generally, there is a merits review for this subclass.
Eligibility:
- The main applicant must be over 18 and under 45 (unless holding certain subclasses).
- The main applicant must nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). This nominated occupation must be worth either 50 or 60 points.
- The main applicant does not need to meet the recent work experience (as in the Subclass 176) but they must:
- Meet the two-year study requirement: that is, have been an international student and completed at least two years of study within last six months (Note: If occupation is trade you must satisfy the Job Ready Test); or
- Be a holder of the Skilled - Graduate Subclass 485 or Skilled - Regional Graduate Subclass 476 or Trade Skills Training Subclass 471
- The main applicant must pass a skills assessment in their nominated occupation
- The main applicant must be either:
- Sponsored by an Australian relative; or
- Nominated by an Australian state or territory government.
- The main applicant must reach a competent level of English
- The applicant must have completed the relevant post-secondary qualifications. This can be a degree, diploma or trade qualification.
- The applicant must meet the Points Test for this subclass which is currently 100 points.
- All applicants must meet health, character, public interest and special return criteria.
- The applicant must be inside Australia when the application is made and granted.
Conditions
This is a permanent residence (PR) visa valid for 5 years. With this subclass there is unrestricted entry and return for the validity period. After this a resident return visa is required, or citizenship if eligible before expiry.

The applicant requires nomination by either a state or territory government or sponsorship by an Australian relative (citizen or PR)/eligible New Zealand citizen.
