SKILLED SPONSORED (OFFSHORE) VISA - Subclass 176

About this Visa:

This is a permanent residence visa which requires sponsorship by an Australian relative or nomination by an Australian state or territory government. The application is dependent on the main applicant meeting eligibility criteria and secondary applicants can be included in the application. This is the offshore, or migrant, version of the Skilled Sponsored Visa, with Subclass 886, the onshore, or resident, visa having different criteria.  There are additional visa application costs for secondary applicants over 18 years old with less than functional English. A merits review is only available if the sponsorship was by the relative sponsor.

Eligibility:

  1. The main applicant must be over 18 and under 45
  2. The main applicant must nominate an occupation with skills and qualifications that are on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and they must have been assessed as suitable for this occupation.
  3. The main applicant must either:
    1. Have been employed for at least 12 of the last 24 months in a skilled occupation For certain (mostly trade) occupations, this recent work experience must be in the nominated occupation; or
    2. Meet the two-year study requirement: that is, have been an international student and completed at least two years of study within the last six months and For certain (mostly trade) occupations, complete the Job Ready Program (JRP).
  4. The main applicant must have their skills assessed in their nominated occupation.
  5. The main applicant must be either:
    1. Sponsored by an Australian relative; or
    2. Nominated by an Australian state or territory government.
  6. The main applicant must reach a competent level of English
  7. The applicant must have completed the relevant post-secondary qualifications. This can be a degree, diploma or trade qualification.
  8. The applicant must meet the Points Test for this subclass which is currently 100 points.
  9. All applicants must meet health, character, public interest and special return criteria.
  10. The applicant can be inside or outside Australia when the application is made, and be outside Australia at the time the visa is granted.

Conditions

This is a permanent residence (PR) visa valid for five years. With this subclass there is unrestricted entry and return for the validity period. After this, a resident return visa (RRV) or citizenship if eligible, is required before expiry.

The applicant requires nomination by either a State/Territory Government or sponsorship by an Australian relative (citizen or PR)/NZ citizen.

The applicant requires sponsorship by either an Australian relative (citizen or PR)/New Zealand citizen or nomination by a State/Territory government.
