GSM Visa Changes
Just as potential general skilled migration (GSM) applicants are reeling from the changes to the new points test, DIAC announced in the 2011/12 Federal budget even more changes effective July 1, 2012. These include a new GSM selection Model via an Expression of Interest (EOI), introduction of Regional Migration Agreements (RMA's) and Enterprise Migration Agreements (EMA's). The changes enable DIAC to be more nimble with changes in the economic situation and the changing demand for various skills. The focus, as per Skills Australia's recommendation is for a demand driven program. At a recent DIAC road show in Sydney addressing registered migration agents endorsing the new points test, in Sydney on 26th May, DIAC advised to expect change in migration policy in line with changes in the economic situation and demand for immigration. In summary, the DIAC spokesperson advised "change will be the norm".
